It’s hard to believe that back to school supplies are going to be needed again so soon, but the summer will be over before we know it, so here are supply lists by grade so you can buy those coveted items online, and sit back and enjoy the rest of the summer!
Back to School Supplies by grade:
Kindergarten Back to School Supplies – Kids entering kindergarten still need supplies! Usually the teacher will ask for items such as paper, tissue paper, glue sticks, crayons, washable markers, kid scissors, dry erase markers, hand sanitizer, and perhaps paints, colored pencils, a pencil holder, folders or other similar items. They like to have enough for the whole class for the entire year, and will likely give you a back to school supply checklist prior to school starting. Crayola has put together a great kindergarten back to school supply kit if you don’t want to try to find everything individually. The items would all be used even if not at school by the looks of it!
First Grade and Second Grade Back to School Supplies – Kids entering first or second grade usually need a few more supplies than kindergartners, including notebooks, highlighters, erasers, rulers and art paper. The other items likely to be asked for include white lined or unlined paper, tissue paper, glue sticks, crayons, washable markers, kid scissors, dry erase markers, hand sanitizer, and perhaps paints, colored pencils, a pencil holder, folders, and regular #2 pencils. Crayola has a great supply kit meant for first to second graders as well!
Third Grade, Fourth Grade, Fifth Grade Back to School Supplies – Kids entering third through fifth grade need pretty much the same supplies that first and second graders need, with the addition of maybe some index cards, and possibly a calculator. Crayola has a supply kit that’s pretty similar to the first and second grade one, so price shop to see which one offers the best deal! There are plenty of other supply kits available, but the Crayola ones tend to be the best quality.
Sixth through Eighth Grade Back to School Supplies – Kids entering middle school tend to be a bit more grown up, but definitely still enjoy a lot of stuff going into the new school year. I’ve found this back to school supply kit to be a nice balance of not too kid focused, and not too grown up yet.
High school and College Back to School Supplies – For the older children headed off to a high school or college level setting, the supply checklist changes significantly. Gone are the colorful markers and pencils, and in are more and more notebooks, index cards, folders and more. This is a great kit to get you started. For those off to college, there are additional items they will need, including a hamper of some sort (great to get one that holds detergent and can be used to transport clothes to the wash), a container to carry bathroom essentials to the shower (like shampoo, soap, etc), bed lifts (to create under bed storage), power strips, and some personal effects – like a unique table lamp for studying, a photo display idea, and a dry-erase calendar.
I hope these back to school supplies ideas help – keep an eye out for the lists from the teachers, and enjoy the rest of the summer!
